Three pub customers are being praised after they confronted an armed robber in Dublin.

The raider threatened staff with a shotgun as they began closing up at the Speaker Conolly bar in Firhouse last night.

Assistant Manager Jason Doyle says the raider ordered the customers to get down on the ground before demanding cash from him.

"I just said calm down, we'll get you whatever you want. He let out a shout to get me the money".

Jason went on to explain that "within a split second the kitchen door burst open, the three lads had jumped the counter and came straight into the kitchen, jumped on him and wrestled him to the ground".

Gardaí investigating the attempted robbery have arrested a man in his 30s, who it's understood was armed with a gun.

The suspected firearm was recovered at the scene and has been sent for technical examination.

The suspect is currently detained at Tallaght Garda Station.
