Mars Denies Reports Maltesers Are Changing Shape

The people behind Maltesers have denied reports they're planning to change the shape of the sweets from balls to buttons.

Details of the reported change were leaked to The Sun during preparations for an upcoming advert.

A source told the newspaper: "I imagine some people will be upset.”

The reported change would have made the popular chocolate snack more similar to the shape of other sweets such as Minstrels.

Mars was apparently considering the move to combat falling sales of the sweets.

In a statement today, however, a Mars spokesperson said: 'We are not planning to change the shape of the much-loved original Maltesers, however we are continually looking at ways to extend the brand, creating new ways for our customers to enjoy Maltesers.'
