A couple in California have been accused of torturing their 13 children, after some were found shackled to their beds.
One managed to escape from the family home in Perris, east of Los Angeles and alert the police.
Officers say David and Louise Turpin's children appeared malnourished and dirty.
Some of the group - aged between 2 and 29 - were discovered shackled to their beds.
Neighbour Kimberly Milligan says the family were very private.
"They only kept to themselves. You would never see anyone visit, you'd never see anyone come outside. They'd make a grocery run and that was about it."
