The majority of new homes are being built in Dublin.

A new national report show more than three quarters of new properties are in the city and the commuter belt.

CEO of GeoDirectory Dara Keogh says most properties are being constructed in urban areas;

''We added approximately 36 thousand addresses to the GeoDirectory in 2017. 77 per cent were either Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow. If you go a little bit further to Cork that figure rises to 82 per cent of all of new dwelling built in urban areas.''

The survey also shows demand for homes is still outstripping supply.

It claims there were less than 7-and-a-half-thousand residential buildings under construction in December.
