A new 24/7 drive-thru donut shop in Blanchardstown is asking customers to stop beeping their horns as they wait in line.

People living near Krispy Kreme, which opened last week, say the noise is keeping them awake at night.

The company is asking customers to be respectful of residents, and is installing new signs to remind them not to beep their horns.

One woman who lives nearby said the noise is "unbearable".

Lorraine said "Sunday night into Monday morning it was going on at half two in the morning".

Lorraine, who explained that the noise is keeping her newborn granddaughter awake, said "you're having to keep all your windows closed all the time. It's an absolute nightmare".

Last year, Krispy Kreme announced that it had chosen the Blanchardstown Centre to become home to its first store to open in Ireland.

Sinn Fein Councillor Paul Donnelly, who lives nearby, admits he's "absolutely puzzled" by how popular the donuts are.

"Hopefully it will calm down, and hopefully people will respect people living in the area and not beep their horn and two or three o'clock in the morning", he said.

In a statement, Krispy Kreme said it is "naturally asking" drivers to stop beeping, and said it wanted to "apologise to local residents who are affected by this".

"To help encourage drivers to be respectful of residents we are getting signage made asking them to be quiet in the area and looking into other options to improve the situation", the statement said.

The company said it was also engaging with the centre management team to control traffic congestion are the store.

"We are working to prevent this and we ask all customers coming to the drive thru to respect the area and the residents who live nearby", the statement ended.
