Work is to begin on the so called missing link of the Dublin Bay cycle path at a cost of 5 million euro.

Construction on the 2 kilometre section at Wooden Bridge to Causeway Road in Clontarf is starting this week, over ten years after plans were first put forward.

This part of the proposed Sutton to Sandycove cycle way should be ready by July 2016.

The full route crosses three local authority areas and will take several years to finish.

Once completed it will provide a 22 kilometre continuous off road cycle route around the bay and would be one of the longest coastal promenades in Europe.
