The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed an Irish tourist has been killed in a hit and run in Florida.
The 41-year-old man was knocked down while crossing the road in North Lauderdale in the early hours of this morning.
He was taken to the local Broward Health Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead.
Police have arrested a 35-year-old male driver of a black BMW.
He is expected to be charged with leaving the scene of a fatal incident.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has offered consular assistance to the dead man's family - however they are not expected to take up the offer.
