Irish soldiers who battled 3,000 Congolese rebels at Jadotville in 1961 are set to be recognised for their bravery.

In a first for the Irish Defence Forces, the 150-man unit will receive a special citation.

45 soldiers are still alive and Declan Power, former solider and defence analyst, says it's a welcome decision:

A film based on the events of the Siege has garnered glowing reviews at the Galway Fim Fleadh this week.

A number of veterans were on hand to watch the premiere of The Siege of Jadotville which stars Irish actor Jamie Dornan

Earlier today, families got to experience what it's like to be in the Defence Forces at Farmleigh House.

The annual Defence Forces Open Day included weapon displays, combat demonstrations and a helicopter landing.

It made a big impression with visitors at the Phoenix Park.
