The inquest into the death of a Dun Laoghaire teenager has heard she took up to three ecstasy pills before she died. Eighteen year old Ana Hick collapsed in what was the Twisted Pepper Nightclub in May 2015.

The inquest heard about the panicked scenes outside the Twisted Pepper Nightclub when Ana Hick collapsed. Her lips were blue, her eyes were rolled back and her legs were wobbly.

Two men were trying to hold her up and people were shouting for an ambulance. Ana’s friend said someone grabbed her and said ‘don’t look, you don’t want to see this’. The inquest heard the 18 year old took up to three pills that night and very little alcohol.

Ana’s boyfriend had been kicked out of the nightclub the hearing was told after being caught with yellow tablets but he changed tops and was let back in. A friend said Ana was on a good buzz and was having fun shortly before she collapsed.

There had been concerns that the pills Ana took had been contaminated. But the inquest heard this wasn’t the case and Ana died as there was an abnormally high level of MDMA – more commonly known as Ecstasy in her system.

The Coroner recorded Ana’s death - as death by misadventure.

Ana’s mum said she wanted to send a message to all young people that they are "special". She said "there is only one of you in the world. You cannot be replaced. Value your life higher."
