The Central Bank of Ireland is to spend half a million euro to move its iconic golden ball from outside its current headquarters on Dame St, to its new base on North Wall Quay.

The Sunday Business Post reports the artwork, officially called Crann an Oir (pron: cran on oar) which means "tree of gold" weighs several tons, and is to be moved to the bank's new 140 million euro eco-building on North Wall Quay.

The move will require approval from Dublin City Council's planning department.

The bank uses the golden ball as its logo, so it doesn't want to leave it behind.
