The cost of buying a house in the city is down for the first time in seven years.

Figures released by the CSO show Dublin residential property prices have dropped by 0.2% in the year to July.

They are now 22% lower than their peak in February 2007.

A greater supply of new homes has been cited as the reason for the slowdown.

Average Prices

The typical price paid for a home in the Dublin region is now €366,000.

This is compared with an average of €255,000 for the rest of the country.

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown had the highest median price at €530,000 while Fingal had the lowest at €337,000.
