A horse has died after being doused in petrol, and set on fire near the LUAS in Tallaght.

The DSPCA has described the killing as one of the most horrific cases its ever dealt with.

Five other horses which were nearby last night had to be moved to safety.

The DSPCA's Brian Gillen said “We have never seen such levels of deliberate and depraved cruelty."

He is calling on people to report any animal abusers saying we need "to put a stop to this barbaric behaviour with the removal of abandoned horses to safekeeping”.
