Plans for 500 homes to be built on the former St Michael's Estate in Inchicore look set to be announced.

It means the grand designs for a new stadium pitched by St Patrick's Atheltic have been rejected.

They'd put forward the proposal to put a category 3 UEFA stadium on top of a shopping centre earlier this year.

The club said it would be willing to build whatever density of housing the city council wants as part of the project.

But according to the Herald, those plans are set to be rejected in favour of building a development of 500 homes on what was one of the most disadvantaged areas of the country.

They'll be a mix of social housing and low cost rented properties, meaning tenants would be able to make monthly payments that are below market value.

It's expected the project will be announced next week.
