Greens don't want any increase in Poolbeg output

The Green Party's hit out at a planned increase in capacity at the Poolbeg Incinerator.

It says it would have a negative impact in the areas surrounding the site with at least 18 extra trucks passing through everyday.

The company that runs the incinerator wants to boost capacity at Poolbeg by 90,000 tonnes per year.

The party's Councillor Claire Byrne says this latest development is disappointing, but not surprising.  Councillor Byrne says she gets regular complaints from residents of Irishtown, Ringsend and Sandymount about the facility.

Councillor Byrne says she is worried that Dublin City Council will be financially liable if it does not meet the annual tonnage that is set.

The final decision about the increase will be made by An Bord Pleanála.
