Gardai are reminding people to keep their homes extra secure over the next few months.
The launch of Safer Communities Week has heard how the number of burglaries tend to go up during summer.
Two out of three burglaries that take place here in the city are of people’s homes.
More so, most intruders get in through the front or back door or through an unlocked window.
Assistant Commissioner Jack Nolan says it's all about taking simple precautions:
"Lock the door, put on the light. But also, tell your neighbor when you're going away."
"Stay in touch with your neighbor because probably the best deter of all is your neighbor asking somebody unwanted in the neighborhood 'Have you any business here'?"
The check list was published as part of Safer Communities week which starts today.
