A Garda has been praised for diving into the River Liffey and saving a man who was drowning.

Sarah Lynam managed to bring the man, who was unresponsive and foaming at the mouth, to safety last Friday afternoon.

The former competitive swimmer says he was face down and had floated under the boardwalk at Bachelor's Walk when she arrived on the scene;

"When I got into the water I initially turned him over, I saw that he was foaming by the mouth so I knew it was a serious matter but obviously there's not much I can do in the water so the next protocal is to get him out of the water as soon as possible."

Garda Lynam says she managed to get the man onto the dock with the help of her colleague;

"Literally two or three pumps on his chest and I saw the foam coming out of his mouth and the water coming out of his mouth and at that stage, I was like ok grand...the relief then I felt."
