Garda Force Is "Policing On The Cheap"

Middle ranking Gardai are accusing the Government of "policing on the cheap".

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors says there is no funding earmarked for the training of new recruits.

The AGSI which is holding its annual conference, says that while the decision to recruit new Gardai this year for the first time in 5 years is welcome, its warning there's no funding to train the recruits.

The middle ranking Garda body says the training college in Templemore has seen little investment in recent years with no budget for new staff or equipment.

He's also calling for better in-service training for existing members of the force.

And Tim Galvin says the construction of the Dromad tactical training site outside Templemore, which cost millions of euro to buy, has not materialised:
