Former Councillor Pleads Guilty To Facilitating Murder Of David Byrne

A former Sinn Fein councillor has pleaded guilty to facilitating the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in 2016.

44-year-old Jonathan Dowdall, of the Navan Road in Cabra, entered his plea before the Special Criminal Court this morning.

David Byrne was shot dead at a boxing weigh-in at the Regency Hotel in Dublin's northside on the 5th of February 2016,

The murder escalated the Hutch-Kinahan fued in Dublin's North Inner City.

This morning, former Sinn Fein Councillor Jonathan Dowdall pleaded guilty this morning to facilitating the killing of Mr Byrne.

Mr Dowdall was due to go on trial on Monday afternoon for murder, alongside 58-year-old Gerry Hutch who is also charged with murder.

Two other men are due to stand trial before the Special Criminal Court.

Mr Dowdall's plea means he will be sentenced on Monday, October 3rd.
