Five men are still being held in connection with the seizure of 80,000 euro in heroin yesterday.

The drugs were recovered as part of an ongoing operation targeting drug dealing in the Oliver Bond flats and South Quays areas.

Gardai from the Kevin St. drug unit were joined by local officers in a planned search of two buildings yesterday afternoon.

During those searches, heroin worth an estimated 80 thousand euro, was seized and a sum of cash believed to be drug money was also found.

The successful intelligence led operation was part of an ongoing plan to dismantle drug dealing networks in the area.

Four men in their 20s and one man in his 60s were arrested and are being held at various Garda stations across the city.

They can be held for a maximum of seven days excluding rest periods.
