Firefighters Urge Halloween Reprieve for Water Restrictions

A million people are battling water restrictions across the city this morning.

Dublin City Council imposed the nightly shutdowns because of a production problem at the Ballymore Eustace Treatment Plant - with Dublin and parts of Kildare and Wicklow effected.

Restrictions came into force at 8 o'clock last night and will end at 7 this morning - but will resume again at 6 this evening.

Meanwhile, firefighters are urging the council to lift the restrictions tonight - as Hallowe'en is one of it's busiest nights of the year.

Chairman of the Irish Fire and Emergency Services Association John Kidd is warning that they may not be able to contain any major fires because of the crisis:
