There's been a major gas leak in north Dublin.

Three fire engines and a District Officer are at the scene in Northwood in Santry.

Firefighters are working with Gas Networks Ireland to make the scene safe and a number of offices and shops in the area have been evacuated.

Traffic restrictions are in place and as a precaution residents are being asked to keep their windows closed.

A statement from Gas Networks Ireland says; "At 8:27am today, 1 May, Gas Networks Ireland responded immediately to a report of third-party damage to a gas pipeline in Northwood, Santry. Gas Networks Ireland staff arrived on site at 8:55am and are currently assessing the situation."
