It's feared a revenge attack could be carried out for Monday's killing in the north inner city after 35 year old Michael Barr was murdered in a gangland hit in Summerhill. The latest victim of the Hutch/Kinahan feud was a dissidant republican and gunned down in the Sunset House pub.

Now top level officers fear a third element - the "New IRA" will become involved in the gangland war and lead to a further escalation in violence. There are concerns that dissidents who have access to explosives and ammunition will carry out a revenge attack on the Kinahan carel.

The on-going fued has so far claimed 6 lives. It began when Gary Hutch was shot dead on the Costa Del Sol last September. Then in February David Byrne, who is an associate of the Kinahan carel was fatally shot when gunmen burst into the Regency Hotel.

Eddie Hutch, the older brother of Gerry Hutch was gunned down at his flat on the North Strand followed by the shooting dead of Noel "Kingsize" Duggan, a friend of Gerry Hutch, executed while sitting in a car in the Old Mill housing estate in Ratoath, Co. Meath in March.

An innocent father of three, Martin O'Rourke became the 5th fatality when he was shot dead on Sheriff Street on April 14th in broad daylight in a case of mistaken identity. Now Michael Barr has become the latest victim in the gang warfare that shows no sign of ending.
