The public transport expert tasked with updating the Dublin Bus network says he's never worked on a redesign that "people haven't yelled about".

Jarrett Walker has been explaining the reasons behind his plan at a special transport meeting of the City Council this afternoon.

He is encouraging people who like the proposed changes, and not just those who are against them, to lodge comments as part of the Public Consultation.

"This is not necessarily going to happen, the public consultation is going to afect wether this is going to happen", he explained to those gathered.

He warned that "it will not happen if the consultation results are overly negative", and pleaded with those who like the project to make the effort to praise it.

Fine Gael Councillor Kieran Binchy believes it's an improvement on what he calls our confusing system.

Giving the example of a tourists asking for directions by bus, he said that "you probably won't know the answer... and if you do know it... it's almost impossible".

You can find out more about the proposed redesign, look at maps, and take part in the public consultation when it opens here.
