The number of families living in hotels in Dublin has almost doubled over the last year.

By the end of May 177 were staying in hotels, compared with 90 during the same month in 2021 according to a report from the Dublin Region Homeless Executive.

However, the figures are down from a high of 871 in March 2017.

Almost 4,500 households, including 2,259 children, were in emergency accommodation in the Dublin region at the end of May. That's a monthly increase of 170.

64 families entered emergency accommodation for the first time in May.
