Irish shoppers are to be given more protection than ever.
The Government is set to ban expiry dates on gift vouchers as part of a major overhaul of consumer law.
A new bill to be published later will also beef up security for shopping online and give statutory rights to people who download or stream music, videos and apps.
The changes will also cover price information for medical consultations, including GP visits.
A study by the National Consumer Agency has found that 48 percent of consumer have let a voucher lapse in the past, showing this is an extremely widespread problem.
