Easter Rising Commemorations Take Place In Dublin

Thousands of people attended events around the country today for the anniversary of the 1916 Rising. Today marks the exact date that the Rising began 100 years ago.

A parade took place in Dublin earlier this afternoon, while a free concert is just finishing up at the GPO. Actors, dancers, musicians and community groups all took part in the events.

President Michael D Higgins and acting Taoiseach Enda Kenny both attended an annual commemoration ceremony at Arbour Hill this morning, where several of the Rising leaders are buried.

James Connolly's great-grandson, James Connolly Heron, says this year's ceremony was particularly special:
