According to a Green Party councillor, the decision to retain the 15% local property tax reduction will save Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown residents just €8 a month.

Oisin O'Connor has hit out at the council's decision not to increase the tax as he says the shortfall in revenue could harm vital services in the area.

South Dublin County Council also voted to retain its 15% reduction while councillors in Fingal brought the drop in its area up to 7.5%.

It's expected this change will only cost the average household in the Fingal area around 15c extra per week.

Councillor O'Connor says landlords and those with large homes will benefit most while public amenities will bear the brunt.

"The big winners last night were those who own big expensive properties which is a small minority in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown.

"50% in the area will have a cut of €8 a month in the local property tax.

"Most of the people I speak to don't want that 8 euro a month, they want council services and they want their local areas to be functional."
