Dublin Zoo has unveiled a new centre to help protect wildlife species that are native to Ireland.

Officials there have teamed up with the International Union for Conservation of Nature to establish the National Centre for Species Survival which opened this morning.

It's hoped the new centre will complement the zoo's other work alongside Bat Rehabilitation Ireland and the Irish Peatland Conservation Council.

Dublin Zoo Director, Dr. Christoph Schwitzer, says the hub will enable conservation and action to take place under one roof, and allow workers to focus their efforts on protecting species such as the pine marten.
