Irish Water has confirmed that overnight water restrictions will apply to almost every part of Greater Dublin.

From Monday, pressure will be reduced between 10pm and 5am to manage demand after the heatwave.

With no significant rain forecast, it's hoped the restrictions will help avoid widespread outages in the autumn.

Irish Water says most customers will experience low night-time pressures, but no loss of supply.

Areas around major hospitals will not be affected, and the restrictions will be reviewed after a week.

The areas affected are:

  • City Centre North and South
  • Smithfield
  • Phibsboro
  • Drumcondra
  • Cabra
  • Whitehall
  • Finglas
  • Beaumont
  • Marino
  • Eastwall
  • Inchicore
  • Crumlin
  • Ballyfermot
  • Kimmage
  • Walkinstown
  • Chapelizod
  • Ranelagh
  • Rathgar
  • Ballsbridge
  • Donnybrook
  • Sandymont
  • Ringsend
  • Clondalkin
  • Lucan
  • Tallaght
  • Templeogue
  • Ballyboden
  • Rathfarnham
  • Dalkey
  • Killiney
  • Ballybrack

Irish Water Engineer and Corporate Affairs Manager, Kate Gannon, is "appealing to everyone to continue to conserve water to avoid any increase or extension of the restrictions".

“We will continue to monitor the situation. These restrictions will remain in place for one week and then be re-assessed", she said.
