Members of the Dublin football team are joining volunteers later to pack over 2,500 hampers.

They'll join up to 60 others at the Capuchin Day Centre to pack up the goods for homeless people and those in need.

All the hampers, which will contain 19 hampers, will be handed out tomorrow.

Alan Bailey, manager of the Capuchin Day Centre in Bow Street, explained: "We're estimating in the region of 2,600 hampers. They'll consist of various grocery items and meat.

"We'll have between 40 and 60 volunteers doing the packaging, and they'll include a good few of the successful Dublin football team."

He added: "They'll bring Sam Maguire with them to help out on the day."
