A lucky married Dublin couple made the very short trip to the National Lottery offices on Abbey Street, today to collect a cheque for €11,345,002.
They scooped the rollover jackpot prize in Saturday’s 03 December draw. It's the second largest Lotto win of 2016.
The ecstatic couple who wish to keep their win private have expressed their excitement at winning the life changing prize. The husband said: "This win will mean so much to all of our family and close friends. There are so many things we want to do for our loved ones which we may not have been in a position to do last week."
The winning ticket was bought in the Spar Store at the Top Service Station, Amiens Street on the day of the draw.
The man who is a civil servant said he didn't find out he had won until Sunday evening when a news bulletin identified where the ticket was sold: "Last Sunday was just a typical Sunday. I had cooked dinner for us and the kids as usual and I sat down in the evening to watch the football on TV. I turned on the news afterwards and I watched in disbelief as the winning shop was revealed."
He added: "I got the ticket and I went upstairs to my wife and I calmly asked her to check the numbers on her phone. She had the National Lottery App so I called out the numbers to her, one by one. As we confirmed the fourth number, I just knew we’d won. We still spent the entire evening checking and rechecking to make sure that we hadn’t made a mistake."
Outlining their immediate plans for their win, the winner, who is involved with Dublin GAA stated: "Due to my commitments with the GAA, any long holidays will be on hold until at least August but we might enjoy a short break away. I will definitely be returning to work, I enjoy what I do, so the win won’t force me into early retirement just yet."
"We’re going to have a memorable Christmas surrounded by the ones we love. I will be doing the cooking on Christmas day as usual and we will have all the kids and extended family there to celebrate with us," he added.
