Dublin City University are calling on the government to introduce regulations to deal with the rising and uncontrolled cost of private student accommodation.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that the Shanowen Square complex would be increasing rent by up to 27% from September.
DCU believe students are being exploited by constraints in the rental market in Dublin, as well as other parts of the county.
They say recent price hikes are unacceptable and will inevitably lead to the creation of a family-income-based barrier to enter third level education.
