Boxes have been opened and votes are being counted in the referendums for marriage equality and the age of presidential candidates.

Voter turnout in yesterday's two referendums topped 70 percent in some polling stations across Dublin.

There was an unprecedented reaction on Twitter with over 72,000 tweets sent mentioning the hashtag HomeToVote.

The Minister for Communication Alex White is welcoming yesterday's high voter turnout.

But the Labour Party's Director of Elections, says he won't be speculating about what the age profile of voter turnout could mean for the result of the Marriage Referendum:

The leader of the Catholic Church in Ireland, Archbishop Eamon Martin, thinks some will find it hard to accept if the 'yes' vote wins in the Marriage Referendum:

Meanwhile, people are being invited to witness the outcome at Dublin Castle today.

2 thousand people will be able to see the results unfold on a big screen erected in the courtyard.

Getting in will be on a first-come first-served basis.
