A group of city councillors have agreed to ask the city manager to start the process to save the Poolbeg towers.

They want the two stacks to be put on the protected structures list after the ESB said they're doing a review of the site which could see them demolished.

The motion was put forward by Labour Councillor Dermot Lacey at a meeting of the South-East Area Committee this evening.

Chair of the committee, Councillor Mannix Flynn says if they were knocked down, it would be a great loss to the city.
