There have been a further 534 COVID-19 cases reported in Ireland today.

Figures released earlier showed six more people with COVID-19 have died over the past week, bringing the total deaths since the pandemic began to 5,006.

Commenting on today’s figures, Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: “COVID-19 is still circulating in our community.

“As we come into weekend, it is extremely important that we continue to adhere to the public health advice to stop the spread of the disease.

"If you develop symptoms of COVID-19 over the weekend, make sure to arrange a test as soon as possible and don’t put it off until Monday to contact your GP or attend a testing centre."

Latest hospital figures show there were 58 COVID-19 patients being treated in Irish hospitals earlier today - down slightly compared to yesterday’s figure of 16.

There are 17 patients being treated for the virus in intensive care.

Meanwhile, the latest update on the vaccine rollout shows 70% of the adult population have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Two million people are now fully vaccinated in Ireland.
