There have been 1,047 new cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.

35 further deaths have also been reported today - 29 of which occurred in February, and six in January.

Today's new cases include 292 in Dublin, 119 in Cork, 76 in Wexford, 60 in Limerick, 47 in Kildare and the remaining 453 cases spread across all other counties.

Of the deaths reported today, the median age of those who died was 84 years, while the age range was 63 to 96.

Figures from this afternoon showed there are 1,221 COVID-19 patients in Irish hospitals, including 181 in ICU.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: “No single intervention is perfect at preventing the spread of COVID-19, it takes many different individual actions to slow down the spread of the disease.

"Every action you take is another layer of protection between you and the virus - the more layers you have the more protection you have.”

Today's figures also show the national 14-day incidence rate of the virus has fallen to 369 per 100,000.
