The cobblestones and paths of Dublin's tourist hotspot Temple Bar could be ripped up in new proposals to develop the area.

The Temple Bar Company sees the removal of the stones as necessary to make the 28 acres of Dublin City safer and more accessible.

It forms part of a 20-point plan for the area aimed to be implemented by 2020 which includes making Temple Bar Square the flagship of the area.

However, changing paving styles in the city has been meet with criticism before, but TBC Managing Direcotor Martin Harte said the cobbles are not an original feature many of which have only been laid since 1980.
