Dublin City Council is looking for a company to improve its Emergency Accommodation Booking System.
It's offering half a million euro to update the software used to keep track of where people are in homelessness.
The contract will last at least three years, but could run up to five.
Daithí Doolan, Chair of the City Council's Housing Committee, says any improvements to the system must be welcomed.
"I would hope that we would have proper negotiations around this, but that ultimately we solve the crisis and get homes for everybody", he said.
The contract to replace the Pathway Accommodation and Support System, which is used by over 2000 staff, was put out to tender this week.
Dublin City Council said it is vital the new system "operates effectively and efficiently, provides optimum functionality and capability, and is consistent with best international practice in this area".
"This new system will provide a secure, dynamic, scalable platform on which all Local Authorities and NGO’s can continue their work", the contract advert read.
