A city councillor says representatives need answers about the protection money allegations.

A number of investigations are underway after criminals in Cherry Orchard were allegedly paid off to keep a building site free from attack.

Despite calls for an update, the Chief Executive of DCC has urged councillors not to hold a meeting on the reports. Owen Keegan has advised against the move while the matter is under investigation.

However Labour's Joe Costello doesn't agree;

"This matter has been discussed in the courts, its been discussed in the media and has been discussed in Dáil Éireann but it has not been discussed in the city council and really its absolutely essential that the councillors would hold the city council to account."
