It's the 99th Anniversary Of The Easter Rising

Celebrations are taking place to mark the 99th anniversary of the 1916 Rising.

It all began at the GPO for the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising, and it is where they’re being remembered today.

Michael D Higgins, Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Minister for Defence Simon Coveney led the ceremony, which saw the tricolour lowered to half-mast, and the proclamation read out.

Patrick Scarlet is a Great-Grandnephew of Padraig Pearse who read the Proclamation on the steps of the GPO and was subsequently the first rebel to be executed in Kilmainham jail.
