Calls for waste management review in Dublin

Dublin City Councillors are calling on the Environment Minister to restore their authority over waste collection services.

At a meeting last night they also decided to look for an urgent review of waste management in the city.

It followed the recent blaze at the Oxigen recycling plant in Ballymount which burned for days and polluted the locality with toxic smoke.

The emergency motion to return authority over the handling of waste to Dublin City Council was proposed by Brid Smith representing the Drimnagh and Crumlin areas and was passed unanimously.

Councillor Smith says a review of waste management services is badly needed in light of the blaze...
