Remarks from the CEO of Dublin City Council about homeless people sleeping in tents are 'regretable', according to Sinn Fein.

Owen Keegan said there should be a ban on homeless people sleeping in tents when there are beds available.

These remarks, made yesterday, have divided opinion.

He said tents added to a perception that Dublin City was 'too edgy', when discussing the issue of safety in the capital.

Sinn Fein's Housing spokesperson Eoin O'Broin thinks he should reflect on the comments, and consider withdrawing them, while Lord Mayor Allison Gilliland says there is no intention to ban tents, but to ensure homeless people can feel safe in emergency accommodation.

COVID-19 and restrictions may dominated the political agenda but this serves as another reminder to the government that the issues around housing and homeless isn't going away.
