Two people are being questioned this afternoon in connection with the murder of a man in Balbriggan last September.

Benjamin Whitehouse was shot dead in broad daylight just moments after dropping his daughter off at school.

Benjamin, better known as Benny, was shot several times after returning to his car on Clonard Road in Balbriggan after dropping his young daughter to the local national school on the morning of Sept 25th last.

The 39-year-old tried to scramble out the passenger side after several shots were fired into the car but he was hit in the back, chest and hand and died face down on the footpath in front of his partner who was also shot during the attack but survived.

A dark Ford Focus believed to be used in the shooting was found burnt out in the Naul area of north Dublin a short time later.

At the time of his death, Mr. Whitehouse was awaiting trial for allegedly taking part in a violent brawl outside his daughter’s school.

Last night, Gardai investigating his murder arrested a 34-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman in Dublin and they’re being questioned at Balbriggan and Swords Garda Stations where they can be held for up to seven days.
