Homeowners in the Beacon South Quarter in Sandyford have been given 21 days to pay up to €5000 toward repair works for the complex, or face legal action.

98FM News has learned the management company has sent letters to residents and landlords to warn that defaulting on the bill for structural problems will not be tolerated.

Last year apartment owners discovered Dublin Fire Brigade had ordered a fire assessment of all blocks after the fire safety defects and water damage were detected.

DFB made clear legal action would follow if works were not carried out to address the problems. Those works were later estimated to cost ten million euro.

After intense negotiations, two thirds of apartment owners voted in favour of the management company's proposal to contribute €5,000 to a fund.

Some people have started to pay the bill while others are still refusing, protesting that they weren't aware of the problems when they were purchasing their apartments.

It's now understood letters have been sent to those property owners informing them they have three weeks to enter a payments plan or face penalties, up to and including a judgement against their mortgages.
