Bodyguards have been protecting BBC Director General Tony Hall - after he received alleged death threats following his decision to drop Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear.

The Mail on Sunday says ex-Special Forces personnel have been watching over Lord Hall and his wife at a cost of more than one-thousand pounds a day.

Scotland Yard says an allegation was made on Wednesday but that no arrests have been made.
