A large number of au pairs living in Dublin are working up to 60 hours per week for a fraction of minimum wage.
The Migrants Rights Centre of Ireland say many au pairs are both mentally and physically exhausted, with many looking after the children and also doing the cooking, cleaning, ironing and in some households, washing the car.
Many of the girls are in full time education and are working these hours around a busy class timetable.
Aoife Smith, Co-ordinator of the Domestic Workers Action Group in the MRCI says there's a big need for a public information campaign around this issue and likened some of the more extreme cases to slave labour:
