Apple is to cut the cost of replacing batteries on older iPhones.

The tech firm's denied claims that it tried to force customers into buying new models - after admitting slowing down ageing devices.

It's apologised but insisted it's to reduce the strain on old batteries and prevent devices unexpectedly shutting down.

There has been speculation from Apple customers that their older handsets were being slowed down in a bid to entice them into an upgrade.

In a post on its website, Apple stated, "We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down. We apologise."

Apple has confirmed that it would cut the price of a battery replacement for anyone with an iPhone 6 or later.

Prices will be reduced from $79 to $29, starting from next month while discounts for European customers are yet to be confirmed.
