Gardai have released details of the vehicle used in yesterday's hit and run in the city which injured an officer.

Detective Garda Tom Gallagher suffered arm and leg injuries when he was dragged 30 metres by a 4x4 that failed to stop at a checkpoint on Baggot Street shortly before 11am.

Officers say the Volvo XC 90 with a 04 - KE reg came to their attention in the Grand Canal Street area yesterday morning.

After the confrontation with Gardai it crashed on Waterloo Road and the driver and passenger fled the scene.

A man and woman in their 20s were later arrested and remain in custody at Irishtown Garda Station this morning.

Detectives are appealing to any witnesses, or anyone with mobile or dashcam footage, to get in touch.
