Abortions Will Be Funded By The State

The Health Minister is bringing the legislation to allow abortions before his cabinet colleagues this morning.

The proposed laws will include exclusion zones, meaning protests can't take place within a certain distance of clinics or hospitals.

It's in reaction to the ongoing picketing of maternity hospitals in Dublin by a group erecting seven foot posters of embroyos and foetuses.

It's understood Simon Harris will also stress that cost shouldn't be a barrier to accessing a termination

With that in mind he'll seek some state funding to alleviate the cost, though the way that's done likely won't be decided today.

The legislation won't make it into the Oireachtas before the summer break because of legal challenges to May's referendum result.
