An investigation is underway after an inmate managed to break onto the roof of Cloverhill Prison.
The prisoner remained on the roof of the main prison building for about two hours before he was removed by staff.
No injuries were recorded during the incident.
According to prison sources he was attempting to retreive drugs that had been thrown over the wall.
The Director General of the Prison Service, Michael Donnellan, said he would like to commend the staff involved for the speed with which the situation was resolved.
